Let’s talk about why not to Google yourself, and what to do instead
We know, it’s tempting to Google your own business to see how your ads are ranking, but there’s a reason you shouldn’t...
Here’s why:
If you search your own business but don’t click on the ad that shows, the algorithm determines your ad is not relevant to the search query, and will show your ad less for similar search queries.
The right way to see how you’re ranking: In your Google Ads dashboard, add the column for Impression Share.
This tells you how often your ad was shown out of the times it was eligible to be shown.
You can also add columns for Top Impression Share or Absolute Top Impression Share.
Top: How often your ad appeared in the top-of-page result.
Absolute Top: How often your ad was the first on the page.
Another way to compare: Alternatively, you can look at the Auction Insights tab to see how your ads are ranking in comparison to your competitors.
